Eng. Mohamed Ahmed, President of Jamhuriya University of Science and Technology, had the honor of attending the QS Africa Forum 2024, held in Accra, Ghana, on September 9-10, 2024. Organized by QS Quacquarelli Symonds and hosted by the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), the forum brought together leaders from prestigious African universities, including Vice-Chancellors, Rectors, and Presidents. The conference focused on how African higher education institutions can align with the rapidly evolving landscape of technology, artificial intelligence (AI), entrepreneurship, and essential future skills to prepare the continent’s youth for the future labor market.
During the forum, Eng. Mohamed Ahmed participated in a scientific discussion on preparing African youth for the future workforce, where he shared insights from Jamhuriya University’s initiatives and Somalia’s experience. The discussions highlighted the critical importance of integrating technology and AI into higher education, enabling students to acquire the skills needed to succeed in an increasingly digital world. The forum emphasized the need for African universities to play a pivotal role in shaping the future workforce.
The President of Jamhuriya University, Eng. Mohamed Ahmed, was also privileged to serve as a panelist in a session titled “Preparing Africa’s Youth for the Future of Work.” Alongside fellow panelists Lloyd Conley, Confidence Mawusi, Abiodun Adebayo, Ph.D., and Veronica Omeni, he emphasized the importance of curriculum reform, fostering strong partnerships between universities and industry, enhancing digital infrastructure, and ensuring committed leadership. These elements, he noted, are crucial for equipping Africa’s youth with the knowledge and skills necessary for the future job market.
